Rules/Guidelines for 2010 International Technique Competition

For the 2010 Gozo Shioda Memorial Yoshinkan Aikido Event (held in Tokyo at the Komazawa Olympic Park), it will not be just Demonstrations, but a COMPETITION of basic movements, techniques, and jiyuwaza.

Participants will compete INDIVIDUALLY, competing against other individuals in a tournament style. Participants may not enter in pairs. Winners will move along to the next stage, ultimately being placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

The techniques required for this competition is listed in the previous blog posting!

Judges will pick winners based on these criteria:
-Accuracy/Consistency of Technique
-Power of technique
-Speed
-Behavior and Spirit
-Taking Uke
-Voice, Kiai

The competition will be divided into 3 groups:
1. Beginner’s Group (No rank - 4th Kyu)
2. Intermediate Group ( 3rd Kyu – 1st Kyu)
3. Advanced Group ( Shodan and above)

1. BEGINNER’S GROUP
Anybody with NO RANK up to 4th Kyu will be placed in this group. The age group is 13 years old and above (Anybody lower will be placed in the JUNIOR GROUP). There is no age limit, and gender will not be separated.

Participant will be placed in a group of 6 (or more, depending on number of participants).
1 Kihon Dosa from the 6 Yoshinkan Kihon Dosa will be chosen, and the command of “Hajime!” Participant will perform right side only, for roughly 30 seconds until command of “Yame!” is called. The judge will choose the best participant to move on to the next round.

Winners will move onto semi-finals, finals, and a winner for 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place will be chosen. (no medals awarded, only certificates)

2. INTERMEDIATE GROUP
Participants of 3rd Kyu, 2nd Kyu, and 1st Kyu will be placed in this group. The age group is 13 years old and above (Anybody lower will be placed in the JUNIOR GROUP). There is no age limit.

Participant will be placed in a group of 6 (or more, depending on number of participants), and will be partnered with another participant randomly. One technique will be chosen and a command of “hajime!” will be given (List of techniques in the previous blog post). Perform both right and left continuously at your own pace, until command of “yame!” is called. The command of “Shite, Uke Koutai” (Shite and Uke change) will be given, and another technique will be called with command of “hajime!” Perform both right and left continuously at your own pace, until command of “yame!” is called.

The judge will choose the best participant to move on to the next round. Winners will move onto semi-finals, finals, and a winner for 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place will be chosen, presented with Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal respectively.

3. ADVANCED GROUP
Participants of Shodan and above will be placed in this group. The age group is 13 years old and above (Anybody lower will be placed in the JUNIOR GROUP). There is no age limit.

Participant will be placed in a group of 6 (or more, depending on number of participants), and will be partnered with another participant randomly. One technique will be chosen and a command of “hajime!” will be given (List of techniques in the previous blog post). Perform both right and left continuously at your own pace, until command of “yame!” is called. The command of “Shite, Uke Koutai” (Shite and Uke change) will be given, and another technique will be called with command of “hajime!” Perform both right and left continuously at your own pace, until command of “yame!” is called.

The final round will consist of JIYUWAZA. One jiyuwaza will be called out (list of jiyuwaza below) with a command of hajime. Shite will continuously throw for about 1 minute, and the command of “Yame!” will be called. “Shite, Uke Koutai” (Shite and Uke change) will be called, and a new jiyuwaza technique will be called with “Hajime!”
1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place will be chosen, presented with Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal respectively.

Thank you for your PATIENCE! We now have 70 participants confirmed for the coming November memorial festival. Thank you all for making the commitment to come to Japan to share and commemorate this important moment.

We now have the details for the core Demo and seminar of the 2010 Gozo Shioda Memorial Festival.

Saturday, November 20th: All Japan/world Demonstration.

The Int`l community is expected to participate in the competition (Please see list of technique required for the “competition” of technique and free style “ according to students level), and also Demonstration.

Party/ceremony in the evening (6 pm)
A short clinic for the International students will be held in the morning before the demonstration by Takeno sensei. ( from 10 am )

Time/Location: Starts 11:30am ~ 5:20pm at Metropolitan Komazawa Olympic Park Gymnasium

Sunday, November 21: 3-hour clinic with Kancho, Ando Shihan, Sonoda Shihan, Payet Shihan, Chino Shihan and Oyamada Shihan
